On the 10th of August, Tobacco-Free Club University of Abuja chapter, TFC, held an outreah event to raise awareness on the Nigerian Tobacco Control Regulation. They called on Federal Government to increase tax to 70 per cent of the retail price of the commodity. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, former Club President Lawrence Izang stated:

“The government must significantly increase tobacco tax to be at par with the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended level of 70 per cent of the retail price over the next five years.”
